FinOps
Every paid choice in the lab gets a decision record: what it costs, what it buys, what else was considered, and when to look at it again. The point isn't the dollar amounts, which are small here. It's the habit: a cost is decided on purpose, with the math written down, not discovered on a bill.
How a record works
Cost, with the math. Prices and the date they were checked, the volume they're multiplied by, and the result. Anyone can redo it.
What it buys. The risk it removes or the capability it adds, in plain terms.
Alternatives. What else was considered, and why not. A cheaper option that weakens safety says so.
Revisit when. The change that would make the decision worth reopening: a price change, more volume, a new requirement.
